Dream Theater: Breaking The Fourth Wall (Live From The Boston Opera House), is a live Blu-ray/DVD set of the band’s one-of-a-kind performance from the Boston Opera House on March 25, 2014.

Produced by the band’s own John Petrucci, filmed and directed by Pierre and François Lamoureux, and mixed and mastered by Richard Chycki, Breaking The Fourth Wall is over 2 hours in length, capturing the special evening, which featured guest performances from The Berklee College of Music Orchestra and Choir.

Dream Theater’s John Petrucci commented on the special event saying, “In many ways, this was a huge homecoming for the band given the history of Dream Theater’s origins and ties with Berklee. With John and I both being alumni and Mike having been a professor at the college for 10 years, we saw the opportunity to perform together with the students of Berklee as a tremendous thrill and honor. We are extremely grateful for everyone’s hard work in making this special event a reality and to all who participated.”

He continued, “All of the Berklee College instrumentalists and vocalists did an outstanding job that night and it was awesome to have one of its students, Eren Başbuğ orchestrate and conduct them live at the Opera House after having been a part of our latest studio release in the same capacity. Dream Theater has always had a great connection to the city of Boston and we knew that against the backdrop of the beautiful Opera House, this would end up being a historic stop on our ‘Along For The Ride’ world tour and an evening most definitely worth capturing on video. Beautifully filmed and directed by Pierre Lamoureux and brilliantly mixed and mastered by Richard Chycki, this is in my opinion, a major highlight in our nearly 30 year career as a band. We really hope that everyone enjoys it!”

Dream Theater began their mammoth “A Dramatic Tour Of Events” world trek in July 2011 with the final leg in South America taking place in August 2012. It was at the Luna Park Arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina that they decided to film the two nights. Those two shows encompass Live At Luna Park.

Live At Luna Park contains the 160-minute main show accompanied by a wealth of bonus material. All tracks from their A Dramatic Turn Of Events album are included, in either the main show or the bonus features. This title features many of Dream Theater’s classic tracks including: “Metropolis Pt. 1”, “The Silent Man”, “Pull Me Under”, “The Root Of All Evil”, “The Test That Stumped Them All”, “The Spirit Carries On” and the recent “On The Backs Of Angels”.

Live At Luna Park is available on Blu-Ray, 2DVD, 2DVD + 3CD, Blu-Ray + 3CD, Deluxe Edition with 40 page Book, Blu-Ray + 2DVD + 3CD, Digital Video via iTunes.

The Chaos in Motion Tour was a trek that found the band traversing the globe, playing 115 shows in 105 cities in 35 countries on five continents to hundreds of thousands of fans. It also included the first annual Progressive Nation Tour, an idea that the band had kicked around for a few years and finally launched into action this past spring.

Chaos In Motion 2007/2008 features performances captured throughout the entirety of the tour, unlike their three RIAA-certified Platinum DVDs, Metropolis 2000: Live Scenes From New York, Live at Budokan and Score, all of which focused on as single concert event.

Drummer and DVD creative director Mike Portnoy plumed his personal archives for footage in order to provide fans with the ultimate tour souvenir. He assembled over three hours of complete live performances, taking footage from shows in Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Boston, Bangkok and Vancouver. The tracks were mixed and effectively brought to life by Kevin Shirley. The second disc is packed with bonus material, including promo videos, live screen projection films, a photo gallery and a 90-minute documentary that’ll make you feel like you’re riding in the passenger’s seat of the band’s tour bus, as it takes you on the road and behind the scenes with the band and crew. It’s like a virtual backstage pass that grants fans further unprecedented access.

The album was released on August 29, 2006 and contains the entire concert setlist, including the encore. A condensed version of the concert was aired on VH1 Classic on August 25, 2006, 4 days before the release of the album and DVD. It was released on September 2, 2006 in Australia.

The title of the album comes from the word “score”, meaning the number twenty, in reference to the band’s 20th anniversary. It can also refer to a conductor’s musical score, which is seen on the album cover.

Two of the songs recorded on this album were previously unreleased: “Another Won,” a song written by the band in their earlier years, when they were known as Majesty; and “Raise The Knife”, a song recorded for but omitted from Falling Into Infinity.

In Australia, the three-disc version of the album was released on September 2, 2006.

Live at Budokan is a live album by Dream Theater recorded at the Nippon Budokan Hall on April 26, 2004 in Tokyo, Japan.

Due to time constraints, the songs “The Great Debate”, “Under a Glass Moon” and “Caught in a Web”, which included an extended drum solo, were removed from the setlist at the last minute. On the DVD, during the credits, the song “Vacant” is played in the background, without Labrie’s vocals.

According to the commentary track on their “When Dream And Day Reunite” official bootleg live DVD, during the first few minutes of the live concert Jordan Rudess had an equipment malfunction that played either the incorrect sound, no sound at all, or random notes 1/2-step upward in pitch. Nevertheless, Rudess mimed playing the correct parts as he realised they would have to be re-recorded in during post-production.

The live DVD was re-released on Blu-ray, on October 18, 2011.

Coincidentally, it was originally released on September 11, 2001, but when it was noticed that the logo on the cover artwork depicted the skyline of New York, including the twin towers of the World Trade Center, in flames, it was recalled and re-released a short time later with the Majesty symbol instead.

Some copies with the original artwork still exist, and are now a rare collectors item. The logo was based on a previous album cover that had depicted a heart in flames. Since the concert was recorded in the Big Apple, the logo was changed to a flaming apple with New York City on it.

Drummer Mike Portnoy collapsed following the conclusion of the show. “I collapsed due to over-exhaustion, dehydration, stress, too little food and nutrition, too many Red Bulls, etc. It took me several hours of throwing up, being wrapped in blankets and laying down before I was carried out of the venue hours after the show”.

Once in a LIVEtime is Dream Theater’s first full-length live album, and their second live release. It was produced and recorded by Kevin Shirley during the European leg of the Touring into Infinity world tour, at the Bataclan theater in Paris.

Jay Beckenstein of Spyro Gyra plays alto saxophone on “Take Away My Pain.” Beckenstein had previously played on the song “Another Day” on the album Images and Words.

The album cover, designed by Storm Thorgerson, shows an overhead view of the ancient Roman theatre in Orange, France set into a head of a monk. It is one of the four Dream Theater albums (When Dream and Day Unite, Falling Into Infinity and Dream Theater are the others) not to feature the band’s word mark on the cover, due to Thorgerson not wanting to use fonts created by others.
